Sweet Potato Casserole in the baking dish

1. Cook sweet potatoes:

  • In a large pot, cover sweet potatoes with cold water and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer until tender, about 20-25 minutes.
  • Drain well.

2. Preheat oven and prepare baking dish:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.

3. Mash sweet potatoes:

In a large bowl, mash the cooked sweet potatoes until smooth.

4. Combine filling ingredients:

  • Add the softened butter, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt to the mashed sweet potatoes.
  • Beat with an electric mixer until well combined.

5. Pour filling into dish:

Pour the sweet potato mixture into the prepared baking dish.

6. Topping:

  • In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour, and chopped pecans.
  • Stir in the melted butter until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle the topping evenly over the sweet potato filling.

7. Bake:

Bake in preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is heated through.

8. Serve:

  • Let the casserole cool slightly before serving (about 5 – 10 minutes).
  • It can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature.
